Revenue processing platform
Decade-old Excel revenue workflow replaced. Month-end close from nine business days to two.
The situation
A private oil & gas operator closing their month in nine business days — nine people maintaining their own copies of a decade-old Excel workbook, reconciliation handled by meeting. Two other firms had scoped the replacement at north of $1M and twelve-month timelines. The CFO wanted two days.
The work
Three-month engagement. A single postgres-backed revenue run model, with ownership boundaries enforced at the database: division orders owned by accounting, revenue runs owned by the CFO, disbursements locked once approved. A live reconciliation screen replaced the reconciliation meeting. The architectural decisions behind this engagement are written up in a Field Note.
The outcome
Month-end close ran in two days on the first month-end after launch. Thirty-six hours by the third.
